What do I need to use Pincer?

Pincer requires three things: an OpenClaw agent running on a Mac, the Pincer for Mac menu bar app on the same machine, and Tailscale installed on both your Mac and iPhone. Tailscale creates the private encrypted connection between your devices.

How do I pair my iPhone with my Mac?

Open Pincer for Mac from your menu bar — it will display a QR code. Open Pincer on your iPhone, tap "Scan QR Code" during setup, and point your camera at the screen. That's it — the QR code contains your Mac's Tailscale address.

The app shows "Disconnected" — what should I check?

First, make sure Tailscale is connected on both devices (check the Tailscale app on your iPhone and Mac). Then verify Pincer for Mac is running in your menu bar and shows a green status. If both are running, try pulling down to refresh in the Pincer iPhone app.

Can I try Pincer without a live agent?

Yes — Pincer includes a Demo Mode that shows realistic sample data. You can enable it during onboarding or toggle it anytime in Settings. It's a great way to explore all the features before setting up the full connection.

Does Pincer collect my data?

No. Pincer communicates directly between your iPhone and Mac over Tailscale. No data passes through any external server. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
